About Dj Grooves
Dj Grooves is a boutique single dj agency, we are unique in the depth of experience we offer, with an envious CV of gigs including a number of NZ's largest companies and prestigious venues.
Our experience stretches throughout New Zealand, and overseas where we have played Weddings, Corporate events, and private celebrations in Australia, Fiji, Queenstown, Christchurch, Rotorua, Taupo, and Auckland to name a few.
For 20 years we were the sole supplier of dj talent to Heinekens, Barworks & JoyLab, bar groups which included 20+ venues throughout Auckland. Including Degree Bar, Sweat Shop, Lula Inn, Regatta, Garrsion Alehouse.
We have played to thousands at Spark Arena, Eden Park, and Go Media Stadium, as well we've played intimate events at restaurants, holiday homes, and private residencies. No matter the scale of the event or numbers attending, as a single dj agency we can ensure the quality of delivery for our service is always maintained.
Whether the occasion is a Birthday for 30 people, a Wedding for 80 people, or a large Corporate Christmas Party for 300+, all clients with whom we partner to dj receive the same care and attention to detail. It's what sets us apart, we make your special occasion, our special occasion.
Through music we bring guests, family, friends, and clients together. Music dissolves barriers, evokes memories, and is the catalyst for great times. We want to see people get lost in a song, sing, dance, or simply enjoy the moment. Most of all we want them to feel good, leave everyday issues behind, and become enveloped in the evenings celebrations.

Dj Grooves has been entrusted with playing a wide array of celebrations. We have a proud record of high end activations, some of which are detailed below:
- Eden Park - All Blacks Test Match Dj - The Grand Hall (1998-present)
The Great Hall in the North Stand always looks magnificent, with big screens, banners, mood lighting, perfectly set tables catering for up to 1800 people, including many well known sports and media personalities. It has been an absolute privilege playing this gig over the past 20+ years. Always well worth the flight from Cch to Akl.
- NZ Film & Televison Awards (Viaduct Events Centre)
An evening where the glitterati of NZ film & television are recognised for their contributions to the genre. I played the welcome and after-party laying down a mix of funk, cool 80s, and disco. It was a tremendous evening to be a part of.
- Coke Zero Launch - South Seas Island (Fiji)
A hot and muggy evening playing on this island in the South Pacific, where I got to lay down the latest dance tunes, rnb, rock, and party favs. The Coke NZ crew were impressed enough to ask me to return and play Rock the Tropics with ZM on Beachcomber Island featuring Elemeno P and Nessian Mystic.

Gold Coast (Pallazo Versace & Sheraton Gold Coast), Fiji (Sheraton Denarau), Queenstown (Queenstown Conference Centre), Taupo (Waiakere Resort)
Incredibly high budget activations spanning a weekend, where being entrusted with the dj entertainment makes you a crucial element to each events success. Coke reps come from all over NZ to celebrate their annual success. I'd play everywhere from poolside parties, beaches, islands, nightclubs, restaurants, boats, and resorts laying down a mix of party 80s, party rock, rnb, hip hop and dance.
- Lord Of the Rings : Twin Towers - World Premiere (Te Papa Museum, Wellington)
Landing at Wellington Airport the magnitude of this event was realised with so many people in LOTR costumes. Wellington streets were preparing for the parade and Te Papa looked magnificent with incredible dancers, flames, and tribal drummers, it was like dj'ing on a movie set. My role was to warmup for Nice'n Urlich. So I provided an opening soundtrack of jazz, house, and disco. It was a wonderful celebrity studded night.
- JAG Bar Group (2000-2008)
- Barworks Bar Group [Heinekin/DB BReweries] (2008-2018)
- JoyLab Bar Group [Heinekin/DB BReweries] (2018-2021)
Heinekens bar group in Auckland, I was the sole supplier of dj entertainment from the humble beginnings of JAG to the 20+ venue behemoth that was Barworks & JoyLab. I've been a part of new venue builds from the ground up, bar launches, brand and rebrand launches. My favourite venue was legendary Viaduct site Degree Bar for which I was resident dj for 20+ years.
- Spark Arena
For close to a decade I played pre-concert sets on the Spark Arena Green for arriving concert goers. I loved playing a vast array on genres for the likes of The Eagles, Shania Twain, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Tool, Robin Gibb, Neil Diamond, Gorillaz, Blondie, Chemical Brothers, Santana, Roger Waters, Pretenders, George Throrogood, Bob Dylan, Stone Temple Pilots, Dua Lipa, Steely Dan, Arctic Monkeys, Flletwood Mac to name just a few.
- Weddings
Waiheke Island, Auckland, Fiji (Denerau), Keri Keri, Queenstown, Rotorua,
Christchurch, Villa Maria Winery, Mudbrick Winery. Weddings are amongst my favourite gigs to play, such great occasions. To celebrate alongside the bridal party with their family and friends is a truely magnificent experience. I have received so many referall bookings from playing Weddings as I always look to deliver a great time for everyone present.
- Vero Insurance - Sales Roadshow - Auckland, Taupo, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown we would tour NZ with the Vero experience. I was the dj and the bands included the Exponents, Dave Dobbyn, and Op Shop among others. Always looked forward to these annual tours.
- Vodafone Christmas Celebrations - Arguably the largest Corporate Christmas parties in NZ and getting to play on many was incredible fun. Themes included the infamous 'One Night In Bangkok' where the St James (Akl) was transformed into Thai backstreets with dancers, animals, and street stalls. Another was an 'Alien Invasion' theme with stunt men, explosions, burning cars and The Exponents. These were big budget affairs and so much fun to play.
- Americas Cup 2000 (Team NZ's inaugural defense)
Sole Supplier of dj entertainment to the Americas Cup Village. A massively supported event with people flocking from all over the world. Most activations were corporate events playing in marques, on super yatch's, launches, and the village stage. A huge learning experience, so incredibly busy from early morning to late night.
- Coke Christmas In the Park (Auckland Domain)
I was the post event entertainment for performers, presenters, and musicians where they needed to have their own celebration after delivering a show to hundreds of thousands at he Domain and on live tv. They always wanted 70s and 80s party tracks, good times socialising, and dancing, mixing and mingling. Good fun.
- St Kents Boys Annual Dance (Auckland)
Perhaps NZ's most prestigious junior dance. including Baradene Girls, St Cuthberts, and Diocesan. High end production for 600+ juniors dancing and singing the night away. An annual favourite gig.

Founding Director
John Morgan who previously supplied DJs and organised for multiple bars in a business where I was the founding Director. The Bar Works group comprised of a group of gastrobars in the Auckland Region. Garrsison, Celsius, Degree, The Flying Moa, Moretons, The Elephant Wrestler to name a few were all under the musical guidance of John and his posse of DJs.
He did a fantastic job of entertaining our many guests and in all honesty made our lives easier with his vast knowledge of music and contacts to keep our businesses pumping.
